SAINT PATRICK
Saint Patrick was born in Roman Britain near the end of the fourth century. Captured by raiders as a boy and carried off to Ireland as a slave, he spent six years tending flocks in the hills, where loneliness turned him to constant prayer. After a daring escape, he returned home — but a dream called him back to the very land of his captivity, this time as a missionary bishop. For decades Patrick traveled the length of Ireland, baptizing converts, ordaining priests, and using the humble three-leafed shamrock to teach the mystery of the Holy Trinity. He is honored as the apostle of Ireland and one of the most beloved saints in the world.
