Saint Maria Goretti Collectors Edition
Saint Maria Goretti
Maria Goretti was born in 1890, in Italy, into a poor family of farmers.
When Maria was just 11 years old, and while taking care of household chores, a young man named Alessandro, aged 20, tried to seduce and abuse her. Maria Goretti screamed and resisted with all her strengths, but was stabbed. In the last hours of her life, Maria Goretti forgave her attacker.
Alessandro was sentenced to 30 years in prison. For a long time, he did not feel sorry for his actions, but one night he had a vision of Maria Goretti giving him lilies that turned into white flames. Alessandro converted to Catholicism and, shortly after his release, asked Maria Goretti's mother for forgiveness.
In 1947, Maria Goretti was beatified by Pope Pius XII, and in 1950 she was canonized by the same Pope, before 250,000 people, including Alessandro.
Maria Goretti is the patroness of girls, Catholic youth and teenagers, and her feast day is July 6th.
