Saint Pio of Pietrelcina — known the world over as Padre Pio — was born in southern Italy in 1887 and entered the Capuchin Franciscans as a young man. A humble friar and tireless confessor, he spent long hours hearing confessions and drawing souls back to God. For fifty years he bore the stigmata, the visible wounds of Christ, and was gifted with remarkable graces of prayer and healing. Through great suffering he remained joyful and trusting, repeating his famous counsel: “Pray, hope, and don’t worry.” He was canonized in 2002 and remains one of the most beloved saints of modern times.
