In 1830, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Catherine Labouré, a young novice, in the chapel on the Rue du Bac in Paris. Mary stood upon the world with rays of light streaming from her open hands, and revealed their meaning: the rays are the graces she pours out upon all who ask for them, while the gems that shed no light are the graces souls forget to request. She asked that a medal be struck after this image, promising great graces to all who wear it. Known the world over as the Miraculous Medal, it bears her words: “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.”

Our Lady of Grace reminds us that God’s graces are always offered — we have only to ask.
