That very night Joseph rose, gathered Mary and baby Jesus, and set out on the long road to Egypt — Joseph leading the way, Mary holding the child close against the dark. There the Holy Family found refuge until Herod’s death, when the angel called them home again. In this quiet flight, undertaken in faith and without question, the Gospel saw fulfilled the words of the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called my son.”
