Over eighteen apparitions she asked for prayer and penance, told Bernadette to dig in the ground — where a spring rose that flows to this day — and finally gave her name: “I am the Immaculate Conception.” Millions have come to that spring since, and Our Lady of Lourdes has become the mother the sick and the frightened turn to first.

Our Lady of Lourdes reminds us that our Mother comes to the small and the suffering — and asks only for our trust.

Feast Day: February 11 | Our Lady of Lourdes, the World Day of the Sick

Mary has a place in every Catholic home. She asked her for nothing but prayer. That is the comfort of Lourdes: heaven does not wait for us to be strong or well or impressive.
